Question

I am a mixed race woman, with a Jamaican father and Caucasian mother.

I have inherited my fathers nose and am interested in ethnic rhinoplasty procedure. I am just a bit worried about family and friends who seem angry that I wish to "deracialise" (as they have put it) myself by reducing my ethnic features.

So I just wanted to know how extreme these procedures are and will I still obtain some of my ethnic features?

To what extent will the rhinoplasty reduce the ethnicity of my nose?

The extent of the changes are effectively driven by your own desired result, and would be determined in consultation using computer imaging in 2-D or 3-D. Naturally the outcome of the operation is not identical to the computer plan but would be reasonably close to it.

If you look on the image gallery on the website at photographs of ethnic rhinoplasty interventions it will help you decide if you feel that the ethnicity of their face has changed.

In my opinion, every rhinoplasty is an ethnic rhinoplasty because everybody belongs to one ethnic group or another, and by changing the shape of their nose they alter some of the balance of their features.

The target of the change is an improved aesthetic balance for the individual, and as such the patient is the only one who can give a valid verdict about the result.
