Question

I'm a black african female and I have the roundest, widest nose ever! I would like to know if surgery on african is as successful as european?

Answer

Surgery to reshape the Afro-Caribbean nose, commonly referred to as ethnic rhinoplasty, can achieve profound changes, but it obviously is important to understand what it is specifically that you would like to achieve as a result of your treatment.

The best approach, would be to meet in consultation and using computer imaging in 3-D and planning on the 3-D shape the changes to allow you to decide what is your exact target.

If the skin of the nose is very thick, it is more difficult to achieve a defined, sharper contour, but not impossible.

In most instances, I use the rib cartilage graft to create a strong framework when [enhancing an Afro-Caribbean nose](34. This does mean a 4.5 cm scar on the right side of the chest, which for women typically is in the crease under the breast, but for men will be more exposed.

You can see some results of ethnic rhinoplasty surgery on my website in the gallery dedicated to rhinoplasty.
