I have always dreamt of having my nose done, however I am completely petrified of general anaesthetics.
Is there any way I could have this with a local anaesthesia.
My approach is to plan with the patient the type and degree of change that would create a result that is both realistic and agreeable to them. In the relatively rare situation where only a small alteration would be necessary, it may be possible to do this type of surgery under a local anaesthetic.
The reality is that I carry out most of the rhinoplasty interventions under a general anaesthetic.
With regards to the risk related to a general anaesthetic, it is estimated that it is approximately 1:100,000 for a serious event, which places it at about the same level with flying on a commercial airline, and approximately 5 times safer than driving on a motor way.
