Your questions answered by our surgeon, Lucian Ion, FRCS(Plast)
Asked on 11 October 2012
I was referred to an ear, nose and throat consultant in August mainly due to the fact that I wasn't happy with the appearance of my nose.
When I got there he had a look and told me I had a deviated septum which could cause breathing difficulties when I'm older, to be honest I wasn't really bothered about that and I told him that what I really wanted was the shape to change.
He said he could do a septorhinoplasty which I agreed to, as my nose had been broke twice before. I just wanted to know how long the waiting list for this might be, and how can I find out if I'm actually on the operation list as I haven't heard anything, I know its only been two months.
Also he said what he was going to do would be the same as if I went to see him privately in London, as he has a private clinic there. The thing is I'm from Ireland and this is where I went to see him, so I was thinking I would have to wait longer because the surgeon has a private clinic and patients to see as well?
I'm afraid it is not possible for any colleague to answer this question on behalf of the surgeon that you have contacted.
The NHS hospitals are making a lot of effort to keep waiting times low, but as you may imagine they have to deal with many types of surgery and it is difficult to be accurate on the waiting list management.
I suggest that you contact your surgeon's secretary to find out when your operation is likely to take place.
